Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical is expanding staff in a move to improve production capacity, in a move to weather the global financial turmoil, while many firms are cutting jobs. The manager for human resources said the company still posted strong results for the past year amid

the sluggish economic environment worldwide, with its flagship infusion products seeing growth in both production volume and sales. Over the last few years, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has invested more than RMB 200 million, or approximately US$29 million, in setting up the world's leading production line of infusion in soft bags, making the company the first infusion producer across China with the capability to produce infusion in glass bottles, plastic bottles and soft bags.
For 2008, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical produced RMB 500 million, or approximately US$73 million, worth of its flagship infusion products, ranking the company third among all infusion producers across the country.

Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical has the capabilities to produce more than 200 pharmaceutical items. Last year, the company’s three new production lines of infusion in soft bags received China’s GMP certification. Production volume and sales of infusion in soft bags, which have relatively high added value, account for 60 percent and 75 percent of the company’s separate totals respectively. Now, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical is preparing for the construction of the first production line in Hebei province to output infusion in dual-chamber soft bags.

The production line is expected to be completed by the end of the year. During 2008, the company received production approval for six new products, of which Ambroxol Hydrochloride orally disintegrating tablets for the treatment of respiratory diseases has recorded sales of more than RMB 10 million, or approximately US$1.5 million, since the company began producing the item more than two months ago.

During 2008, Shijiazhuang No.4 Pharmaceutical maintained high growth, with sales and pre-tax profits up 25 percent and 15.2 percent, respectively, over 2007, despite the negative factors brought about by the financial crisis.
