China’s Huadong Medicine recently announced that Hangzhou Huadong Medicine Group Biotechnology Institute will transfer its tacrolimus drug technology to Hangzhou Zhongmei Huadong Pharmaceutical, in which Huadong Medicine holds a majority stake, in an exclusive deal worth RMB25 million, or approximately US$3.7 million.

The technology transfer, which further complements Huadong Medicine’s array of products for organ transplants, is expected to help the company grab a larger share in the market for organ transplant-related drugs and enhance its competitive advantage, making it the country’s largest producer of drugs for organ transplants. |

With the broadest product portfolio in China’s organ transplant immunosuppressant sector, spanning cyclosporine, mycophenolate mofetil, tacrolimus to sirolimus, the company will meet the increasing demand for combined medication in clinical applications, facilitating its sales growth.
The expanded product lineup, which includes some of the most widely used drugs for organ transplants, will also strengthen Huadong Medicine’s position as a leading Chinese immunosuppressant manufacturer, helping the company compete with international pharmaceutical giants such as Novartis, Roche and Astellas Pharma. In addition, to maintain its strong growth, Huadong Medicine plans to enhance its efforts in the research and development of new products, further shortening the time |
