According to statistics from China Customs, the country delivered US$2.6 billion in exports of pharmaceutical products during the first four months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 4.7 per cent, with US$700 million of the total recorded in April, up 2.7 per cent over a year before. For the first four months, domestic foreign-funded drug producers sold US$1.12 billion worth of drugs abroad, up 21.5 per cent compared with the same period last year, and accounting for 43.1 per cent of total pharmaceutical exports.

Privately owned producers witnessed US$680 million in drug exports, 22.1 per cent higher than a year before, or 26.3 per cent of the total, while state-owned producers exported US$640 million worth, a year-on

year drop of 12 per cent, and representing 24.6 per cent of the total.
During the four-month period, the country exported US$710 million worth of bacteriophage, declining 16.3 per cent over the year-ago period, and occupying 27.1 per cent of the total pharmaceutical exports; US$640 million of vitamins, a rise of 5.4 per cent year-on-year, or 24.7 per cent of the total; and US$280 million of medical dressings, slightly down 0.2 percent over a year prior.
The US and European Union (EU) remain the country’s two major destinations for drug exports. During the January-April period, the country’s pharmaceutical exports to the EU totaled US$710 million, a rise of 6.6 per cent over a year prior, and accounting for 27.3 per cent of the total drug exports, while the amount |

to the US reached US$460 million, up 10.4 per cent from a year ago, representing 17.7 per cent of the total.
In addition, for the same period, the country exported US$330 million of pharmaceuticals to India and US$200 million to ASEAN countries, climbing 4.4 per cent and 5.1 per cent year on year, respectively.
