Lonza has reached an important milestone in the development of its activities in China. With the start-up of production in the large-scale facility in December 2008, Lonza successfully concludes the first phase of the expansion of its Nansha API plant. Nansha is located in China’s southern Guangdong province, in strategic proximity of Guangzhou and Hong Kong. |

Lonza’s new API facility in Nansha, China, combines state-of-the art facilities, industry-leading development services and advanced cGMP chemical manufacturing plants with 110 years of chemistry know-how and Lonza’s commitment to quality. The Nansha facility is a fully integrated site with modern utilities, administration, research and development, kilo lab, small-scale production and large-scale production. 70 scientists are supporting the R&D Services, working in a 1 000m2 lab area.

The first phase of the small-scale plant in Nansha successfully started operations in September 2007 with the aim of building a bridge between the kilo-lab and commercial-scale production.
The new large-scale production facility in Nansha is a six–train, multipurpose API manufacturing complex. Production in the first train was successfully started in December 2008 with the first customer product. The new state-of-the-art facility was designed based on the more than 30 years of experience with Lonza’s Swiss and US based API plants.
It is fully cGMP compliant and meets requirements of all global regulators. Off gases and waste water are carefully treated in accordance to Lonza’s global safety, health and environmental standards. The design of the facility allows for quick change over and is supported by reliable logistics in a key geographic location.
Both facilities have been audited by numerous customers according to the highest standards. Interest from our global customers remains on a very high level.
Further expansion of the API manufacturing activities in Nansha has been initiated with construction of the next phase extensions (small- and large-scale plants). |
